Dua Qunoot in the Essential Duas and Surahs Book 1

At Safar Publications, we prioritise presenting original wordings from reliable individual narrations. Following this approach, we have chosen a version of the Dua of Qunoot from Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah as narrated by Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). This version remains authentic to its source and aligns closely with the version commonly found in Hanafi Fiqh books, while maintaining the integrity of the original narration.

The Dua of Qunoot in Witr prayer has been narrated in various forms from different Sahabah, and thus multiple versions are recognised and authentically attributed in Islamic tradition.


Based on our research, some classical Hanafi texts present a combined form, integrating words from multiple narrations to create a single, comprehensive supplication that encompasses the varied aspects of this dua.

While we have opted to retain the distinct wording of a single narration in our book, allowing us to preserve the individual source. We fully acknowledge the authenticity and validity of other narrated versions, and our approach is intended to provide a reliable option for readers while respecting the rich diversity of traditional practices. Other versions are fully permissible, and the choice between them may vary according to preference or community practices.


If a child or adult has learnt a more commonly recited version of the Dua of Qunoot, rest assured it is perfectly acceptable, and vice versa. Allah rewards those who make sincere efforts in prayer, regardless of the specific wording used. The various authentic versions of this supplication are all valid, and choosing one version over another does not affect the sincerity or acceptance of the prayer.


Madrasah/Institute Guidance:

Madrasahs/institues are encouraged to choose the version of Qunoot that best suits their students and community. Whether they use the version provided in our books or another widely-recited version, both are valid and rewarding.

If parents have questions or concerns, you should explain that there are different valid versions, and all are fine to recite. This helps everyone stay aligned, allowing children to learn without confusion.
