How is Workbook 1 structured and how should it be used?
Introduction
The Safar Year 1 workbook is used in conjuction with the Year 1 textbook and it has been designed to be fun and engaging for young children. This 'how to' will explain the different formats a chapter may have in the workbook. Each chapter will have one of the following:
- Activity pages on their own
- Activity pages with corresponding cut-out page
- Cut-out pages only
All the workbook chapters have the same title as the textbook chapters, and the workbook is used by children after having studied the textbook chapter. To begin with, look at the contents pages carefully.
1. Understanding the contents page
The contents page highlights how each chapter is structured. You will notice that chapters may include:
- Activity page
- Cut-out page or activity
Page numbers are clearly listed next to each textbook lesson.

All cut-out pages are perforated for easy removal and include a black tab so they can be quickly identified within the workbook.

2. Activity pages
Some chapters include activity pages that involve simple tasks such as colouring, writing or drawing. These do not require any cut-out elements.
In the contents page, the cut-out column will be blank for these chapters.
There are only a small number of these. For example, the chapter Alif to Yā of Little Reminders includes only an activity page. No materials are required from the back of the workbook.

3. Activity pages with corresponding cut-out pages
Most chapters follow this format and are particularly engaging for students.
For these chapters, students will:
- Carefully remove the perforated cut-out page
- Complete the task on the cut-out page according to the instructions
- Cut out the completed pieces
- Stick them onto the activity page as directed
For example, in the chapter Who Am I?, students first complete the cut-out page by colouring the words. They then cut them out and place them in the correct positions on the activity page.

4. Cut-out activities only
Some chapters are designed as craft-based activities and include only cut-out pages.
In these cases, students will:
- Remove the required cut-out pages from the workbook (some activities may include more than one page)
- Colour, draw or write as instructed
- Assemble the pieces to complete the activity
For example, the chapter Four Main Angels and Their Jobs includes a cut-out activity with two pages. Students colour and cut out the elements, then assemble them to create a simple interactive craft that reinforces the lesson.
