How long should I teach each textbook for?
For the primary series (Textbooks 1 to 6), the recommended approach is one textbook and workbook per academic year. At Safar's own branches this runs from September to July, approximately 41 weeks. Not all of that time is spent directly on the textbook though. A typical year also includes time for mid-term and end of year revision, assessments, school events and holiday breaks.
For the secondary series, each textbook is taught over two academic years due to the depth and volume of content. So Textbook 7 covers years one and two of secondary, and Textbook 8 covers years three and four.
What if my timetable is different?
The textbooks are flexible and designed to be adapted. Whether you run a weekday supplementary school, a weekend maktab or a home education setting, the pace can be adjusted to suit your teaching hours, your student cohort and what they have covered previously. Some institutes spread higher level primary books such as Textbooks 5 and 6 over two years where timetabling requires it.
The goal is always depth over speed. It is far better for students to engage fully with the material than to rush through a book simply to finish it.
Timetabling support
Safar has produced a dedicated timetabling document showing the many different ways both weekday and weekend institutions have structured the syllabus across a year. Download it here: Safar Timetabling Permutations.
